When is the best time to take maternity photos?

As a maternity photographer in Sydney, specialising in the art of capturing a woman’s pregnancy in all its beauty, I am frequently asked “When is the best time to take maternity photos?” In this blog post I offer insights and guidance so you feel confident and at ease when booking your maternity photography session.

You often hear women say “I wish I had professional photos taken when I was pregnant”, as it is an amazing time in a woman’s life that goes by so quickly and can never be replaced. It is also a time when a woman is said to be her most beautiful!

So when is the best time to document this incredible journey?

The third trimester is a great time for a maternity photoshoot. I recommend the best time for the pregnancy photoshoot is when you are approximately 32 to 35 weeks pregnant. This is when your joyous glow perfectly compliments the beautiful curve of your belly. Your belly has started to be lovely and round, and generally baby has not dropped down to far yet which makes your belly appear higher and you feel more comfortable.

Plus it’s good not to schedule the shoot too close to your due date, so if baby does decide to come a bit early you have not missed out all together!

Some people opt to shoot around the 32 week mark, while others prefer an even fuller bump between 34 to 35 weeks. If you think you have left it too late - don’t worry! I have photographed women at 40 weeks and the images were stunning. They all said they were so happy I captured their amazing pregnancy just in time, and love their gallery full of beautiful pregnancy photos.
