What to Wear for your Newborn Photoshoot
Many people ask what clothes will look great for a newborn photoshoot. You don’t need to go and buy anything special, but bringing some key clothing items will help make your images look beautiful. Here are a few tips to prepare for your newborn photoshoot! Both for yourself, your baby, and anyone else coming to your newborn session.
Keep photos timeless by avoiding bold patterns or big logos on t-shirts. Simple colours look great in photos. It’s also best to not bring any fluoro colours as they don’t mix so well with the natural tones of your skin.
No nappy newborn photos are beautiful! This means that anyone who is going to be in the photos and holding your newborn can get weed on! So bring a change of clothes for yourself and anyone else who is going to be holding your newborn during the session.
For the parents (and grandparents if coming along), wear something that makes you feel good, comfortable and is your own style. You don’t necessarily need to wear anything fancy or have your hair or makeup done, unless that is your style then go for it!
It’s nice to have some clothing coordination between kids, parents, and possibly grandparents. It is definitely not essential that you wear the same colour or style, but think a little before if the colours work well together.
I recommend putting bloomers over your baby’s nappy or covering it with a wrap. As part of my studio clothing set, I have some bloomers, wraps, and crochet cocoons for you to use if you wish.
Don’t worry about shoes. Usually, the only newborn session photos I take where your feet would show are of everyone sitting on the ground. We usually have everyone go barefoot for these.
You may be wondering what you should wear for sibling photography. For little ones, shirts off is very cute if you like that style. The studio is always warm during a newborn shoot so shirt-off photos are comfortable and enjoyable.
Ask yourself if there are any personal or sentimental items you wish to incorporate into your family photo shoot. For example, a hand-knitted blanket, special hat, or top. Maybe your child has a favourite soft toy you would like to have memories of.
