What to wear for your Maternity Photo Shoot

You may be finding it difficult to know what to wear for your maternity photography session, but don’t let that stop you from finding some beautiful things to bring along. I have some suggestions and tips, plus some links to check out at the end.

Sheer or partly see-through material looks great for silhouette shots

Specific clothing items can frame your pregnant body beautifully, creating the image you are after. You can bring as many or as few items of clothing as you like, and you will have plenty of time to change outfits throughout the shoot.

Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel good and is your own style. You don’t need to bring a whole lot of things, these are just suggestions to guide you. Our studio is lovely and warm in the winter, and cool in the summer so you will feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the session.

A robe that frames the belly always works well

A tight black dress gives a classic look

It looks lovely if you have a sarong, skirt, or jeans that sits nicely under your belly. A large shirt, robe, or cardigan can also work well.

I also have some chiffon material you can borrow, plus a few maternity gowns. You may also like to wear underwear, a bikini, or a swimming costume in some shots. This can bring out your growing bump.

Chiffon Material - you can drape around the body

Swimming Costumes or Bikinis are great for accentuating the belly

Chiffon Material - lovely for nude shots where you can cover certain parts of the body

Denim Jeans - leaving the top button undone looks great

Lingerie can be very flattering and works well with moody lighting

It's best to wear clothing to the shoot that does not create marks on the skin. Marks from a tight bra for example can take a long time to fade so wear loose clothing before the session. This is only important if you would like to do any topless or nude maternity photos.

It is also good to consider your hair, nails, and makeup. You don't need to be fancy, but just be aware that your hands are likely to be in the photos holding your gorgeous belly.

Consider your nails as they are often seen in the photo

Some jewellery like a necklace or earrings may also be nice to add to your maternity wardrobe.

If your a big fan of jewellery don’t forget to bring some along
